Innovative independent watchmaker Ressence operates in a distinctive space in the watch world, with its distinctive approach to displaying time is a true embodiment of contemporary watchmaking. Now, in a notable collaboration, the brand has released a unique limited-edition timepiece, TYPE 9 S75, in celebration of Ahmed Seddiqi’s 75th anniversary as a luxury watch and jewellery distributor in the UAE.

Limited to just 20 pieces, the new TYPE 9 S75 blends creative design with a nod to local heritage with a dial that incorporates real sand, sourced in equal proportions from the dunes of all seven emirates of the UAE This design choice brings a subtle texture to the watch face, offering a functional mechanical timepiece with a clear display. Further linking the watch to its origins, it is presented with a strap crafted from genuine camel leather.

Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi, CEO of Ahmed Seddiqi, shared his thoughts on the release: “We are honoured to celebrate Ahmed Seddiqi’s 75th anniversary with the launch of the TYPE 9 S75, a truly exceptional watch that beautifully captures the spirit of the UAE By incorporating grains of sand from all seven Emirates into the dial and featuring a strap crafted from genuine camel leather, the watch is a unique tribute to the nation’s landscape, heritage, and innovative thinking. This limited edition not only reflects our deep cultural roots but also symbolises the partnership between Ahmed Seddiqi and Ressence, blending tradition with cutting-edge horological craftsmanship.”

Benoît Mintiens, Founder of Ressence, explained the concept: “Central to this project is the idea of measuring time through the motion of sand grains. This watch stands at the crossroads between the ancient hourglass, the organic dome of the dial echoing the texture of dunes, and the regional origin of the piece, symbolised by a blend of sand gathered from all seven Emirates. All expressed through a contemporary watch design for the 21st century. That’s a lot for a 39mm watch.”

This collaboration also saw a symbolic gesture, with Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi and Benoît Mintiens venturing into the desert together to collect the sand. The TYPE 9 S75, weighing just 40 grams, embodies Ressence’s commitment to innovative design while reflecting Ahmed Seddiqi’s legacy. It represents a harmonious blend of nature and modern horology, offering a distinctive tribute to a significant milestone.
